"Fake" by Cassie Tarbox

Fake.

You’re walking down the hallway, and you see dozens of people passing you by but are the appearances you see the true definitions of those people?

Fake.

You’re sitting in the library or the cafeteria and you watch the interactions between people- between “friends,” and you wonder if the personalities they’re portraying are the same on the- inside.

Fake.

What I find is that some of the most known and confident people are the people who are the least known and the least confident. Just like it’s easier to read someone else's writing out loud than your own, they think it’s easier to portray a personality that is popular- a personality that will make them fit in with the fake and ridicule the real.

Fake.

Fakeness is taking over the classroom because it’s not “cool” to appreciate the education you’re getting.

Fakeness is taking over friendships- because you never know what they’re saying behind your back.

Fakeness is taking over morals and respect because you’re looked at funny if you stay in your place and abide by authority.

Fake.

These people discriminate the real. They’re not confident enough to do what they do and be who they are. They need drugs and alcohol to get this confidence and show their true colors, but what they don’t know is that they can achieve the same feeling simply by not caring what other people think of them.

Let’s step away from the fake for a second and walk into a classroom where the class isn’t required to graduate. It’s like a breath- (breathe)- of fresh air. These people want to learn and these people reward you for the things you’re usually made fun of for. It’s a judge-free zone that some people will never experience.

So I’m not here to insult anyone’s life because I know I slip into this grasp of fakeness’s grip.

But I also know how much better it is when you confront this vandal and steel back the you that is rightly yours.
